Lake Norman Rotary Club-Huntersville Scholarship Program to benefit local High School Seniors

Huntersville NC - The Rotary Club of Lake Norman/Huntersville will award one $1,500 college scholarship to a Huntersville area high school senior in recognition of his/her community service efforts and achievements.  "This scholarship will be given to a student who exemplifies the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self," said the Club's Vocational Service Chair and Scholarship Project Coordinator, Jeremy Smuckler, an attorney with McGuireWoods. Huntersville area high school principals or scholarship coordinators may nominate two students to apply, and the Lake Norman Rotary Club- Huntersville will select the scholarship recipient from among these applicants.  To be eligible a student must be a high school senior graduating in spring semester 2010 with a B average or higher from either North Mecklenburg High School, Davidson Day, Hopewell High School or the Southlake Christian Academy. The applicant must enroll in an accredited college or technical/vocational school for the 2010/2011 academic year. Interested high school seniors should inquire about the scholarship and application requirements with their school prinicipal or scholarship coordinator.

Rotary is an international charitable organization comprised of 1.2 million professional and business leaders, united worldwide in 164 countries, whose goals are to provide humanitarian service, promote high ethical standards and build goodwill and peace in the world.

The scholarship fund is due in large part to the Club's signature Annual Wine Spectacular, held October 16, 2010 at Northstone Country Club, where the Club meets each Thursday morning at 7:40am.

Applications may be obtained online at the Rotary Club of Lake Noprman Huntersville Web site, http://www.LakeNormanRotary.com. If additional information is needed, contact Jeremy Smuckler, chairman of the Scholarship Committee at lnrotary@gmail.com.
