Letter from the Rotary Club President
Saturday, October 1, 2011
7:00 p.m.
Thank you for considering participation in the highly
regarded and sought after 14Th Annual Lake Norman Wine
Spectacular! – Charity Auction & Tasting hosted by the
Rotary Club of Lake Norman - Huntersville. The Wine
Spectacular! will take place at The Havana Social Club
in Cornelius, on Saturday, October 1, 2011 beginning at 7:00
p.m. The Wine Spectacular! features delicious food, music
and opportunities to taste some fine wines as well as
purchase featured wines at a discount (only during the
event). Live and silent auctions will offer opportunities to
bid on fine wines and other special items hand selected by
Mr. George Erdle, noted wine editor and wine connoisseur as
well as many other items graciously donated from local
businesses and friends of Rotary.
Over the last several years, the Rotary Club of Lake Norman
– Huntersville has contributed in excess of $250,000 to
local charities including The Lake Norman Community Health Clinic, The
Ada Jenkins Center and The Red Cross. This year, the Rotary
Club of Lake Norman-Huntersville has chosen The Lake Norman Community Health Clinic as our main beneficiary while we will continue
to support The Hope House, USO – North Carolina and Rotary
International’s End Polio Now Programs.
The Lake Norman Community Health Clinic offers healthcare
services to uninsured or under-insured residents of
Huntersville, Mooresville, Davidson or Cornelius on
Wednesday evenings. Visit
LKNFreeClinic.org for more information.
The Hope House in Huntersville, NC offers
transitional housing and support for single mothers and
their children. Visit
www.HopeHouseFoundation.org for more information.
The USO of North Carolina - at Charlotte Douglas
Airport enhances the quality of life of the U.S. Armed
Forces personnel and their families worldwide and creates a
cooperative relationship between U.S. military communities
and civilian communities. Visit
www.uso-nc.org for more information.
Rotary - End Polio Now - After 20 years of hard work,
Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this
tenacious disease, but a strong push is needed now to root
it out once and for all. It is a window of opportunity of
historic proportions. Your contribution will help Rotary
raise $200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants
received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The
resulting $555 million will directly support immunization
campaigns in developing countries, where polio continues to
infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures
and compounding the hardships faced by their families. As
long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the
world, children everywhere remain at risk. The stakes are
that high. Visit
http://www.rotary.org/en/EndPolio for more information.
We hope you will save the date – October 1st at The Havana
Social Club in Cornelius and also consider contributing
wine, quality auction items or even becoming a sponsor of
this year's 14th Annual Lake Norman Wine Spectacular!
Charity Auction & Tasting. More details are available by
visiting http://www.LakeNormanRotary.com.
Yours In Rotary Service,

Karla Combs, 2011-2012 President

A bit about Rotary...
The Rotary Club of Lake Norman-Huntersville is a local
chapter of Rotary International, which is truly global in
scope. Thousands of local chapters make up the organization,
raise charitable funds and provide assistance to hundreds of
local, national and international programs and charities.
Our goal is to make our local community better by providing
assistance to those in need. Our local programs include
scholarships for local high school students, student
exchange programs, and other charitable projects, most
notably, support of the Lake Norman Community Health Clinic, which
provides medical attention to those without traditional
medical insurance services.
Our Rotary Club members share a common interest in serving
others, locally in our community and internationally. We are
a diverse and dynamic group. We enjoy a special camaraderie
at our regular weekly meetings, and in all of our
volunteering, fundraising and social activities. Where else
can you really get to know such a varied and talented group
of individuals? We hope you will consider learning more
about our club, even becoming a member. Most new members of
Rotary join for Fun, Fellowship, Food and Philanthropy. But
many learn that the rewards of becoming Rotarians are much
larger than they ever imagined. We invite you to be our
guest for breakfast any Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30 AM at
Northstone Country Club. Visit http://www.LakeNormanRotary.org
for more details.
