Thanks to Huntersville Presbyterian Church and the Rotary Club of Lake Norman Huntersville, over $1300 was raised at the February 12 Valentines Spaghetti Benefit. According to Rotary Club of lake Norman Huntersville member, and Event Coordinator, Karla Combs, Insurance Agent with OTC at the Lake,"the event was a success thanks to many sponsors, volunteers, local businesses and others who saw the need to provide assistance to area families in need of hot meals." "We discovered that there are many families who simply cannot physically get to the Angels and Sparrows Soup Kitchen and funds are needed to enable transportation of meals to desperately hungry families." Sandy Tilley, Executive Director of Angels and Sparrows Soup Kitchen and her very understanding husband, Roy, provided all the cooking for the event which served over 163 throughout the day in the beautiful dining facilities at Huntersville Presbyterian Church in Huntersville coordinated through Church Elder Steve Wright. Angels and Sparrows serves nourishing lunches, Monday through Friday 11AM-1PM, year round to anyone who needs help. The benefit will facilitate delivery to homebound recipients on a case-by-case basis. They work with Solomon House in Huntersville to determine the need for home deliveries. The event could not have occurred but for the generous event sponsorships of Mamas Pizza Express in Huntersville, who provided salads. Desserts and other delicious goodies were generously provided by The Fresh Market in Cornelius. Spaghetti sauce and other meal amenities were also provided by Northstone County Club where the Rotary Club meets each Thursday morning for breakfast meetings. Rotary Club President, Chris Jones, commended, Karla Combs by stating "these take charge Rotarians like Karla that make events like this possible and with such great success.  This affair came to be because of Karla's dedication and hard work, but even more importantly her care for the community. Our club thanks Karla and all of her volunteer Rotarians, including a few of our new member candidates, for their service above self. They truly are supporting one of our mantras of "Making Dreams Real." Jones further commented, "Our club is looking to add additional quality members that are passionate about serving their community. We have a standing invitation to people that live or work within our community to come to our Club as our guest any Thursday morning for Food, Fun, Fellowship and Philanthropy.
